Topics are where the Networker is genuinely unlike other tools. A topic is a single entry for a real thing — one project, one person’s work, one concept — no matter how many places it appears.

The key mechanism: the same name, wherever it occurs, resolves to the same topic automatically. Mention a subject on a notebook page, and it links to the row about it in a table you imported last year — without you tagging, linking, or remembering that the table exists. A topic can carry several names (including variant spellings), and merging or splitting topics later is routine, so tidiness is something you add over time, not a precondition.

Open a topic and you see its whole footprint: its names, its connections to related topics (broader, narrower, associated), and its references — every page, table, comment, and web link where it plays a part. That panel is the payoff of everything above: a view of your material organized by what it means, not by which file it happens to sit in.
